Okay, most people don’t dream of alphabet exemplars, but they just don’t know what they’re missing out on!
So, what is it then?
An alphabet exemplar is a sheet with the full alphabet, upper and lower case, in any given script style.
Can I save you the struggles I endured over 15 years ago…before I learned from alphabet exemplars?
Clients used to send me screenshots of their wedding invitations and ask me to “match” the script on the envelopes I addressed for them.
That seems like a completely reasonable request, but have you seen how modern invitation designs look?? Many only have the couple’s names and the wedding location written in script. THE REST IS IN ALL CAPS! I often did not have a full script alphabet to use and had to make up the rest of the alphabet based on the letters I was given.
This takes a lot of time!
So, take it from me, you want to have a complete alphabet script when you jump into learning a new script for your calligraphy projects.
It is so much better to have the FULL alphabet–what we call an alphabet exemplar–whenever you are learning a new script style.
Over fifteen years later, I now currently offer over 20 different script styles to our clients!
I may be a little overzealous as some calligraphers only offer one style – their trademark. While other calligraphers offer their clients a few script styles to choose from. It’s completely up to you!
You know that I have been at this for a while now, so I have worked to refine many scripts over the years. I can truly offer my clients a diversified collection to choose from, and that makes me proud.
If you are trying to expand your script offerings, or you just want to know new scripts for your own repertoire, I highly recommend learning from alphabet exemplars.
Guess what?
