Straight vs. Oblique Pen {video!}

If you are just starting out in the world of calligraphy, it can be overwhelming to find the right pen holder that will work best for you.
Often, people will naturally gravitate towards the straight pen holder because it resembles a classic writing pen, while the oblique pen holder has more of a unique design that can look intimidating to beginners.
There are many important differences between the straight and oblique pen holder that can affect your writing experience.
Some of these include:

  • The overall pen shape
  • Position and direction of the nib
  • Hand placement on the pen holder

In our YouTube video, I discuss the differences between the straight and oblique pen holders and provide some insight into which pen I would recommend for beginners.
I also want to be sure to mention that you are not starting on one and working towards the other. Whatever you learn on is what you will continue using throughout your calligraphy journey, but there’s definitely an option that will give you a better experience from the very beginning!

If you are interested in getting a new pen holder, head to our shop to check out our variety of oblique pen holders and nibs!
